STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE

Last Tuesday, Nanny Cathy excitedly told me that Jake could walk a few steps. Yeah, right. We have seen him pull himself up in the playpen or walk while clutching your hand or onto low furniture, but I haven't seen him walk real steps all by his lonesome. I wanted to see for myself.

Back from a stroll downstairs with the other tots, I eagerly waited as Nanny Cathy poised Jake to showcase his newly-perfected skill. I was quite hesitant to let go of him completely, thinking that it was just too soon. Then, I felt that he wasn't leaning on me for support. Huh? Wha...

He was standing, a bit wobbly though. This was nothing new. Jake could stand alright, even before he turned a year old. Then, his weight shifted from one leg to the other. He looked very determined to lift his right leg, then his left. Soon, like in cadence, he made his slow baby steps towards the television. I literally shrieked with delight! Was this for real? Jake is walking!!! My baby is now walking!

Aw... I felt a pang inside of me. My Jake is really walking now...

After a few days, Jake seemed more confident to walk...

yippee!!!

(naku, maglalakwatsa na yan hehe

I could also feel your excitement and that of Jake of being able to walk by himself. So I would mark that in my calendar that on May 15 (happens to be the feast day of St. Isidore of Madrid, my birthplace) Jake got the FIRST few steps for the rest of his life.

Make him realize this early, however, that it is NOT how NEAR he can walk "to the edge of the cliff without falling, but how FAR he can walk away from dangerous passes" that is important in life. D

It's really great we chose to spend time to see your children take their 1st step, go to their 1st day in school, take their 1st Holy Communion, watch them play in their 1st "real" basketball game, catch them make their 1st paint brush strokes...These once in a lifetime experiences are things that money can't buy! HI BEABEAR, PAPARAZZI, JERRY, TONI, ANNABANANA, CHRISTINE!!
Sigh, time really flies. I should be happy right? Of course I am. A big part of me is excited at the thought that Jake is certainly growing up. Yet, somehow I'm a bit emotional at this point. A small part is reluctant to let go. Haay...

Emo!

HI CHRISTENE!
That would have been easier if I were 2 years younger. Medyo unsafe na yata to have a baby at my age. When I gave birth to Jake a year ago weighing only 2lbs 11oz, that kind of scarred me for life. Hehehe...
