Phototime Tuesday: STICKS AND STONES
|
|
I couldn't think of a better one for the theme especially at midnight. Since I so wanted to submit something for the challenge, all I could think of was a box of toothpicks on faux stone kitchen countertop. Heehee.

Oh, great news I received on my cell today. Sis has finally undergone an ultrasound and.... (TA-DAH!!!)... she's having a baby girl. Ah finally! Our Mom will find this a really welcome news. She's got 3 grandsons by me and it's about time she gets a guurrrl!
As a side note, do you think ultrasound is unsafe? My sister's obstetrician insisted on having it on the 7th month and said it's really not necessary to have it earlier than that.

All In Due Time
I've been pining for a chance to travel (again) with my family and see more of the world, but circumstances are preventing me from realizing this goal for now. Jake is only about 4 months old, I have loads of work, we have priority payments to attend to, Matt & Kyle are busy with school.... etc.... etc...
Note to self: Be patient. Things will happen when they are supposed to....

Yay! Today has been declared a Special Non-working Holiday to celebrate the oathtaking of newly-elected Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (GMA). It's the first time in history that a new President has chosen to take oath in Cebu, thus, the frantic 24-hour preparation for the past few days of the venue, the Cebu Provincial Capitol. Not a few criticized this move of GMA, but to Cebuanos, this was a great honor. And this was manifested in the throng of supporters that showed up for the oathtaking. Dig that FPJ!
Thinking that this historic event is not going to happen again, at least not in the next 6 years, I urged Jerry to bring me to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral at 5:00pm, for a photo op of GMA who was there attending a thanksgiving mass.
The church grounds began to fill with people from all social strata. And like most of the people there, I was eager to see the President in person. With phonecam and digicam in hand, Jerry and I felt like paparazzi(s). Hehe....
As the dignitaries exited the church, the crowd began to push and shove to get a glimpse of the VIPs. My toes got stepped on a few times and I was being squashed from all sides. That was when Jerry motioned me to make my way inside the church.
It was hard to get a good view of the altar as the people were already standing on the pews. When the presidential entourage walked past us, I tried my best to crane my neck and flail my camera to the general direction of GMA. I guess I looked very much like a fan, but who cares?
Oh well, see the pics above. These are products of my feeble attempt at being a paparazzi.
How about you? Who's the most famous person you ever tried stalking, er, taking a picture of?

Phototime Tuesday: PATHWAY

"Pathway" Musee Rodin, Paris, France (pls click to enlarge)

"To be transformed into the image of CHRIST I must learn HIS character, love HIS obedience to the will of the FATHER, and begin, step by step, to walk the same pathway..." (Philippians 2:7 NEB)
That's Jerry in the photo doing his impression of Rodin's "Thinker". It was humid that day we were there and the pathway was all dry and parched. One gust of wind sent white powdery dust swirling around and at the scampering museum guests....

After playing host to a series of meetings/briefings for the past week, I unilaterally decided to slow down, and unwind. This meant tuning in to myself and immersing myself in anything I fancied doing. First thing that came to mind other than sitting in front of my laptop was to go to the salon for a slight "pick-me-up". Nah! I'm not high-maintenance. An ordinary nail job would usually do the trick...
So there I was sitting on the comfy chair getting my feet pampered clean and my toenails trimmed. Unmindful of the attendant's unsolicited advise on why I should stop shaving my legs so that "di lalaki ang FOURS (pores)", I enjoyed the short massage that went with the package. It felt good alright, and the stress seemed to drain out through my painted toenails. *Sigh*. I could sit there forever...
Not all good things in life are free, in this case, one came with a measly P60 service charge!
(The photos above are not in any way related to my post for today... )

Finance meetings, in the past, were always held in our Cubao head office. And everytime I had to attend, there's always a surge of emotions--- EXCITEMENT in being able to visit my family and friends back in Manila FOR FREE (!), being able to see what's new in the metro, touching base with friends at work, and at the same time, DREAD in having to endure being away from my boys, the traffic to & from office, the filthy air, and the hassle of lugging my computer and suitcase at airports.
For a change, we planned a different venue this time. Everyone voted to have it in Cebu. According to Irene, requesting for approval was tough as our CFO knew that it would be more practical to have it in Manila where we could actually coordinate with the different departments. Undaunted, she and Lito prepared justifications for the Cebu meeting to materialize. To cut the story short, approval was granted.
Here are pictures of the 2-day (June 24-25) meeting where business was definitely mixed with pleasure.

This is the newly opened coastal road called the South Reclamation Project (SRP) in Cebu. It shortens an hour's trip from downtown Cebu to Talisay by half the time. The city mayor has grand plans of developing this new site into a tourist spot. As of late, the city is sprucing up the former Kawit islet (now connected to the city by the SRP) where an old lighthouse and the ruins of an old church are located.
We have tried to drive along this road several times now since it opened. Once we tried to pull over just like what some cars did and sat on the breakwater to simply admire the view... wide expanse of the sea in front and the mountains not too far behind. It was quite refreshing to just sit there next to each other (Jerry & the kids), relax and breathe in the sea breeze.
In my books, this is another great way of spending family time together.

Eye-catching indeed...Walking along the street of Zermatt, Switzerland on our way to see the famous Matterhorn, I almost didn't expect to find anything like this at all. Blending among the lush greenery and quaint Swiss chalets that lined one side of the street, I came across this wooden crucifix conspicuously erected by the roadside.
